What's Your Motivation for Losing Weight?

It seems like most of the people I talk to lately have one thing on their mind-losing weight.  With January only a few days away from becoming February, some folks are making good on their New Year’s Resolutions, while others have already put them away to bring them out again next New Year’s.

In talking to different folks, I’ve found two basic motivations for losing weight.  Vanity and health.  Everyone’s got to have a basic motivation for change, right?  Is one better than the other?  Is getting healthy a purer motive for weight loss than wanting to look good?  Does one give you more determination than the other?  How does your support system look different for getting healthy vs. just wanting to look good?

I’ve talked to friends who struggle with the doctor’s report that their weight and lifestyle is becoming a risk to their overall health.  Some take the doctor’s advice seriously and determine to “lose a few pounds” so they won’t become pre-diabetic, or to help them get their blood pressure under control.

Then there’s my group of friends who just want to look a little better, younger, have more energy.  Age has crept up on them, along with a few pounds, and their clothes don’t look quite the same as they did 10 years ago.

Whatever your motivation for getting a few (or a lot) of pounds off-you don’t have to sacrifice results because of your motivation.  There are tangential effects of good health for those who are motivated by wanting to look good.  And vice versa, those who want to look good will find they have more energy, sleep better, and have a healthier lifestyle.  Working with a coach and support group to help encourage you, answer questions, offer advice, share recipes and tips can help you find success along your journey.

My coaching program will help you with the support you need to lose the weight you want, whether you just want to look good or need to lose to become healthier.  Feel free to reach out to me at jarichey54@gmail.com for information on how you can get started today.
